Chris is a Senior Coastal Engineer and remote sensing expert with over 8 years of experience working at WRL. Chris is an industry expert at applying remote sensing techniques such as satellite imagery and drone data to solve complex problems in the coastal zone. He has experience undertaking physical modelling of coastal structures and is also proficient in spatial assessments using GIS and quantitative analysis of large point cloud datasets.
Chris is a licensed PWC operator as well as being a CASA certified UAV pilot specialising in leading field data collection programs in coastal and estuarine zones. He has experience conducting over 500 drone flights using aerial photogrammetry, multispectral sensors and drone-based LiDAR as well as collecting current and bathymetric data in NSW and in the Pacific.
Chris pioneered the use of UAV technology in Australia as a tool to regularly monitor the coastal zone and has regularly provided surveying services to monitoring beach change for a range of NSW Councils. He has also previously been granted approval by CASA to operate within 100 m of Sydney Airport, in the most congested airspace in Australia for asset inspection of breakwaters at Port Botany.
