WRL engineers provide a hydraulics training course in Myanmar

Brett Miller and Bruce Cathers (centre) in Myanmar

Principal Engineer Brett Miller and Dr Bruce Cathers have recently returned to WRL having spent two weeks providing training for a group of fourteen Myanmar government engineers in Yangon.

The Department for Water and Improvement of Rivers (DWIR) has responsibility for river navigation and dredging in Myanmar. Brett and Bruce presented lectures on open channel flow, sediment transport, numerical methods and computational hydraulics along with hands-on river model training using the freely available HEC-RAS model.

This training was customised to target local knowledge gaps in hydraulics and modelling, and was funded by the Australian Water Partnership (AWP); part of Australian Aid provided to Myanmar.
