The Manly Dam Project – VIP Event

Manly Art Gallery & Museum Curator Katherine Roberts, UNSW President and Vice Chancellor Professor Ian Jacobs and WRL Director Professor Ian Turner.100 senior leaders and representatives from government, industry and the university attended a VIP Event at Manly Art Gallery & Museum on Tuesday night, rounding out WRL’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

WRL Director Professor Ian Turner MC’d the event; using the milestone as an opportunity to look forwards, rather than as a reflection on past achievements.

“it is probably fair to say that WRL’s engagement throughout the past year with such an exceptional group of artists, has put us engineers well outside our usual professional comfort zone… it has stretched and stimulated my colleagues and I to look with new perspectives at who we are as

a research team, and also how we will choose to engage with the future.”

WRL would like to thank President and Vice Chancellor Professor Ian Jacobs for his kind words about the quality and impact of the research currently underway within the WRL laboratories.

Nicole Welch and Nigel Helyer were two of the artists involved who spoke at the evening, providing a fascinating perspective on their 10 months of interaction with WRL engineers and the lessons that can be learnt from this arts-science collaboration.

The Manly Dam Project exhibition closes this Sunday 23rd February.
