Online seminar: Climate change adaptation for ports and maritime infrastructure and operations

Honorary Associate Professor Ron CoxHonorary Associate Professor Ron Cox recently presented an online seminar on climate change adaptation for the WA division of PIANC Australia & New Zealand.

Ron is an expert in coastal policy and climate change, with over 45 years of experience across water, environmental and coastal engineering. Ron provides advice to Commonwealth and State governments and leads the Australian Climate Change Adaptation Research Network for Settlements and Infrastructure (ACCARNSI). In 2008 Ron was formally recognised for his long standing and continuing contribution to the profession and community, being awarded Engineering Australia’s prestigious Sir John Holland Award for Civil Engineer of the Year.

The online seminar covers the implications for port planning and management, interpreting sea level projections and understanding their relevance and the potential impact on the industry. Current climate change guidelines and case studies are discussed, and the use of high density concrete armour units for major breakwater upgrades.
