ARC Linkage funds for major project
Congratulations to Professor Ian Turner, and all his research and industry colleagues on their successful ARC Linkage Project (LP170100161). Over $500,000 has been awarded by the Australian Government for the team, which includes Professor Ryan Lowe and Dr Jeff Hansen (UWA), Dr Diana Greenslade (BoM), Dr Nathaniel Plant (U.S. Geological Survey), and Dr Kristen Splinter (WRL), for the development of a new coastal hazard early-warning system capability for Australia.
"There is a great need" says Ian "for Australia to develop a storm wave damage and beach erosion early warning system. Our project aims to develop a new coastal hazard early-warning system capability to alert coastal communities, emergency managers and coastal engineers of impending storm wave damage and coastal erosion."
Emergency preparedness informed by early warning is expected to significantly benefit vulnerable communities and infrastructure along Australia’s coasts.
Congratulations and thanks also to WRL Project Industry Partners: Bureau of Meteorology; NSW Office of Environment and Heritage; United States Geological Survey; Northern Beaches Council; City of Mandurah; WA Department of Transport.
