His eye for detail and talent for sub-surface flow system conceptualisation provide decision makers with appropriate assessments of project risk and uncertainty. Examples of this work have been published in special editions of Coastal Engineering and the Australian Journal of Earth Sciences.
Doug has over 15 years experience specialising in water and groundwater resources assessment and management. His interests include the optimal design of engineering systems utilising environmental process and computer modelling studies. To support these interests Doug maintains a strong background in data management, computer programming, geo-spatial data analysis, hydrogeological site characterisation and numerical modelling.
Doug is an expert groundwater modeller with several years of FEFLOW modelling experience. His expertise is complemented by a background in groundwater resources assessment, civil engineering hydraulics, automated coastal engineering data collection and management, and the physical and numerical modelling of surface-water flows.
He employs a considered and practical approach to engineering projects, working with the WRL team to deliver high quality project outcomes. His eye for detail and talent for sub-surface flow system conceptualisation provide decision makers with appropriate assessments of project risk and uncertainty.
Doug has worked on a variety of groundwater related consulting projects involving environmental drilling, field data collection, data management, data analysis and modelling. Related project experience includes feasibility assessment and optimisation of municipal injection and extraction projects, design through to commissioning of effluent reuse monitoring programs, regional source water protection studies, resource and reserve assessment of mineral brines (NI 43-101), assessment of closure options for mine pits, and the peer review of underground mining dewatering impacts.
An example of Doug’s work which involved the automation of data collection and analysis for real-time coastal engineering management back in 2004 can be found online at: http://ci.wrl.unsw.edu.au/current-projects/tweed-river-sand-bypassing-project/
