Dr Mitchell Harley
Mitchell Harley is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Water Research Laboratory. He completed his BEng (Environmental, Honours 1) and BSc (Oceanography and Meteorology) in 2004 and his PhD in 2009 at the University of New South Wales. Mitchell has a range of expertise in coastal morphodynamics, climatology, estuarine processes, numerical modelling, remote sensing and field data collection. His PhD, entitled Daily to decadal embayed beach response to wave and climate forcing, investigated the role of wave and climate variability on the morphodynamics of embayed beaches that are typical of the southeast Australian coastline.
Mitchell’s current research focus is on the analysis and modelling of swash zone dynamics based on extensive field data collected on beaches in the UK, the Netherlands and France. Mitchell has also assisted WRL on a number of projects, including Byron Bay beach scraping, Cryon groundwater monitoring and Tomago wetland restoration.
