Dr Chris Blenkinsopp

Dr Chris Blenkinsopp is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Water Research Laboratory. Chris holds an MEng in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Coastal Hydrodynamics. Chris has a background in laboratory and numerical modelling of complex flow regimes, and has also worked as a Coastal Engineering Consultant. He is interested in a wide range of coastal and fluid problems and in particular in carrying out detailed measurements and analysis of complex natural phenomena.

Chris’ current primary research interests are swash zone dynamics and violent multiphase flows such as breaking water waves. Chris has been with WRL since 2007 and is working primarily on the ARC funded “Wave-by-wave bed-level changes at the beachface of gravel and sand beaches” project. A significant part of this research involves the completion of a series of large field programmes in France, Holland and the UK with the aim of providing new information about sediment transport in the swash zone of sand and gravel beaches on the timescale of individual swash events.
