WRL Technical Report: Mallowa Creek Data Compilation Study (2006/22)

In 2006 WRL was commissioned to undertake a data compilation study of the Mallowa Creek, floodplain and immediate catchment area, as part of an overall of investigation of the surface water distribution system, to satisfy stock, domestic and any future environmental flow requirements.

Mitigation works in the 1970’s changed the natural flow process through the creek and floodplain, with the construction of regulators on the Mehi River and Mallowa Creek. The objectives of the investigation are to investigate the process of mitigating the natural flow processes throughout the floodplain through the existing regulatory system.

The initial stage of the investigation focused on the impact of the built structures throughout the creek. These structures consist of the Mallowa regulator, pipes, controlled dams, and causeways. Field exercises measured the flows through these structures and their individual energy losses.

The next stage of the investigation will capture the topography of the catchment and develop a numerical hydraulic model to simulate the surface water distributions of the stock and domestic flows, and required environmental flows.
